Alan (Leonard) Person

Alan (Leonard) Person, 74, Bismarck, passed away April 6, 2018, at Sanford Health Center in Bismarck.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, April 13, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, ND with Rev. Steve Sathre as officiant. Inurnment will be at a later date. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church.

Alan was born April 13, 1943 to Carl A. Person and Fern Opal (Burdick) in Bismarck, ND.  He was born and raised in Bismarck graduating from Bismarck High School in 1961. He then earned an Accounting degree from the University of North Dakota and a member of Kampa Si Fraternity. Alan entered the US Army in the early 1960s. Alan went on to work for the State of North Dakota NDPERS, Anchorage Police and Fire Retirement System, and Wichita Intrust Bank where he retired back to his 40-acre farm in North Dakota.

Alan married Mary Lou Mezoff, in 1975, in Bismarck, and together had three children. Alan was a proud member of the Boy Scouts and planted trees. He guided canoe tours out of Eli, MN and worked to help restore the camp.  Alan loved cooking. He made his daughter, Jennifer’s favorite dish, “Chicken ala Al”.  He was an umpire for the American Softball Association for many years and he always looking forward to umping the McQuade Tournament each year. Alan will be remembered by so many whose lives he touched with his gentle warmth and kindness.

Alan will be deeply missed by his wife; daughters, Jennifer Helvig, Mandan, Molly (Alex) McNeece, Detroit, MI; son, Charles Person, Seattle, WA; brothers, John (Rosemary), Bismarck, Neil (Kathy), Bismarck; grandchildren, Megan Helvig, Andrew Helvig, Ella McNeece, William McNeece, and Ian Person.

Alan is preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Person Educational Fund.
