Alan Moch

Alan Moch, age 78, passed away on July 11, 2026, at his home in Mandan.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 20, 2026, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 210 5th Avenue NW, Mandan. Burial will be held at 12 noon at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with full military honors. Lunch will be held at St. Michaels after the burial.

Alan was born February 16, 1948, in Bismarck, to George and Margaret (Cook) Moch. Following his graduation from Hazelton High School, Alan served six years in the United States Navy, including two years of active duty stationed in Okinawa. After his return, he married Sandra Witikko, and together they raised their children, Lori, Nathan, and Justin. After graduating from the University of Mary, Alan served the State of North Dakota for 26 years, retiring as the Director of Weights and Measures in 2010.

In his time away from work, Alan's real passion was music. A talented drummer, his stage career began in his teens with “The Pacifics,” led by his friend, Ray Renz. Their musical partnership continued when Ray formed a new group, “Ray and The Ravens,” with Alan agreeing to join the group in what would become a 25-year creative journey, spanning from 1965 to 1990. For Alan, the friendships formed during those years were often just as important as the music itself; he loved to tell stories and anecdotes from the band's many performances over the years. Those same friendships eventually brought the group back together as “The Ravens,” with Alan reprising his role as drummer from 2002 to 2009. If he wasn't playing music, he was likely listening to it; and if he wasn't lost in a song, he was probably planning his next trip to the cinema. Music and film were defining parts of his life, and that passion for creativity was passed on to his children.

At the heart of Alan's life was his family. He was a devoted husband to Sandra, often speaking of how incredibly lucky he was to have her in his life. He was also a champion to his children; as a father, he supported every new endeavor, hobby, or career path they pursued, never missing an opportunity to tell them, and anyone else who would listen, just how immensely proud he was of them. That same pride extended to his granddaughter; he loved hearing about every one of her accomplishments and victories, and took great joy in sharing those updates with family and friends. He will be deeply missed by his loving family.

Alan is survived by his wife, Sandra; his children, Lori and Nathan; his granddaughter, Isa; and his sisters, Catherine Palmquist and Deborah Moch.

Alan was preceded in death by his son, Justin; his parents, George and Margaret Moch; and his sister, Sandra Salerno.
