Peter was born on March 29, 1930 to Anton and Celestine (Walter) Urlacher at Desert, ND, about 20 miles south of New England. As a young boy he was faced with the depression years. He attended a one room school house about 3 miles from home. At the age of 8 they relocated east of New England and that’s when he started at St. Mary’s Catholic School. After going to a catholic school for many years, Peter still went to religious class in the summer and that is where, as he would say, “I met a very special girl who I fell in love with, Frances Benz”. Peter’s second love was the farm; at a young age he learned how to till the land and harvest the crop using horses. He enjoyed watching the crops grow and the baby calves running on the hillside.
Peter married the love of his life, Frances Benz and together they had 5 children. They moved to St. Anthony in 1961 where he operated a dairy and beef farm. He was involved in the Go-Getter 4-H Club, St. Anthony Verein, Eagles, Rural Fire Department, and was very active in the St. Anthony Catholic Church.
Peter will be deeply missed by his daughter, Patty (Randy) Berger, Mandan; sons, Dale (Linda), Aberdeen, SD, Dennis (Linda), Duane (Beth), both of Mandan, and Doug (Joyce), St. Anthony; 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Johanna (Frank) Zauner.
Peter is preceded in death by his wife, Frances, his parents, and 3 sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Go-Getter 4-H Club.
