Loretta was born on December 20th, 1945 to Herb and Christine (Hartze) Czeczok in Bismarck, ND, the second of five children. She was baptized at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bismarck.  Loretta attended Apple Creek School and graduated from St. Mary’s Central High School in 1963. She attended the University of North Dakota, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work in 1967. She married her first husband, Roger Powell, on April 1st, 1967.  Loretta worked in the social work field for over 50 years, including 29 years at the State of North Dakota’s Protection and Advocacy Project, retiring in 2018. She was a tireless advocate for those who could not defend themselves.  Loretta married the love of her life, Edward Movchan, on March 19, 1993.

Loretta enjoyed camping, country music, road trips, tending her garden, and most importantly, spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren – they were her world. Everyone loved her quick and sassy wit, and infectious laugh. You always knew where you stood with Loretta. She shared all of herself, unselfishly. She was famous for her chocolate chip cookies, vegetable soup made straight from her garden, Texas beans and monkey bread.

Loretta is survived by her husband, Edward Movchan, Mandan, ND; children, Bryan Powell (Teresa), Anchorage, AK; ReLynn Powell, Bismarck; Erik Powell (Jenna), Bismarck; Cari Frisk (Matt), Fargo, ND and Kent Movchan (Francesca), Dallas, TX; nine grandchildren; Talon, Dominik, Evan, Ella, Tia, Ki, Isabella, Ford, and Giuliana; sister, Renae Freuer, Beulah, ND; and brothers Larry Czeczok, Lincoln, ND and Alfred Czeczok, Bismarck, ND, and countless nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, Herb and Christine Czeczok, brother, Bob Czeczok, and first husband, Roger Powell.

Loretta touched so many hearts, as a wife, mother, sister, grandmother, mentor, advocate, and friend. She will be missed immensely.
