Obituary

Mary Ann Kalvoda, 80, Mandan, died peacefully on July 10, 2017 at Sanford Health surrounded by her loving family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Nick Schneider as celebrant. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 12, 2017 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Catholic Daughters Rosary at 7:00 pm followed by a Parish Vigil at 7:15 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

Mary Ann was born on December 20, 1936 in Bismarck, the daughter of James and Magdalen (Schantz) Knoll. She was raised and educated in Mandan where she graduated from Mandan High School in 1954. She attended St. Alexius School of Nursing, graduating in 1957 as a Registered Nurse. On November 27, 1957, she married the love of her life, Joe Kalvoda, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mandan. She began her nursing career at Mandan Hospital where she worked until 1962. After raising a family and helping on the family farm, she returned to nursing in 1974 at the Mandan Villa. She retired from nursing in 1999.

Mary Ann was a member of the Catholic Daughters, Fort McKeen Homemakers and West River Lions. She was a 4-H Leader, played organ for church and weddings, and was on the Christ the King Parish Council and School Board. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, word games, puzzles and playing games with family and friends.

A gentle and loving mother with a never-ending smile will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Blessed to have shared her life were her husband of nearly 60 years, Joe; her children, Deb (Joe) Braun, Kathy (Dave) Kottsick, Lorie (Dwight) Pletan, Sharon (Mark) Malm, Joan (Jeff) Dietz, Joe (Laura) Kalvoda and Julie (Joe) Crispell, all live in Bismarck/Mandan area; 16 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; brothers-and sisters-in-law, Dolores Knoll, Emil (Mary) Kalvoda, Frances Lauzer, Lillian (Karl) Kruzela and Henry (Josie) Kalvoda and honorary sister, Lila Kalvoda.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, James (Cecelia) and Eugene.
