Loretta Olson

Loretta Irene Olson, 81, Mandan, passed away February 6, 2017 at Sunset Drive A-Prospera Community in Mandan.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, February 10, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Shane Campbell as celebrant. Burial will be at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 9, 2017 from 5:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Loretta was born on June 1, 1935 to Anton and Katherine (Thomas) Braunagel on a farm west of Strasburg, ND. In 1944 she moved with her family to a farm north of Sterling. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1953. After graduation she worked as a bookkeeper for Opgaard's Clothing Store and later as a receptionist and bookkeeper for Occident Seeds in Bismarck before her marriage to Robert C. Olson on November 24, 1955 in Bismarck, marking 61 years of marriage this last November.

Loretta was an active member of her community and taught religious education her entire life enjoying the interaction with all the youth in her classes. She also sang in the choir in various churches in the community. Loretta was an expert seamstress and enjoyed sewing many different items, she also enjoyed gardening, reading and camping with her family. She and Bob liked to travel, enjoying trips to Canada, Mexico and all over the Upper Midwest. Above all her faith and her family were most important to her and she was loved and will be missed by many.

Loretta will be deeply missed by her husband, Bob; daughter, Mary (Kasper) Kraft, Mandan, ND; son, Keith, Long Beach, MS; 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dr. Magnus (Mildred) Braunagel, Littleton, CO and Robert C. (Marilyn) Braunagel, Vero Beach, FL; sister-in-law, Helen Braunagel.

Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Katherine; son, Kevin; sisters, Susan Materi and Emma Weist; brother, Claude Braunagel.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be given to God's Child Project or St. Joseph Church Trust Fund in Loretta's name.
