Jack Schaaf

Jack R. Schaaf, 92, Mandan, passed away July 19, 2017 at St. Vincent’s Benedict Place in Bismarck.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 am on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Shane Campbell as celebrant. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Friday, July 21, 2017 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a St. Anthony Verein Rosary at 7:00 pm. There will be no viewing prior to the Funeral Mass.

Jack was born on September 24, 1924 to Roy and Rosemary (Gerhardt) Schaaf in St. Anthony, ND. He was raised and educated in that area. Jack married Florence Markel on November 12, 1945 in St. Anthony. Jack worked for John Iverson Company retiring in 1987. Jack was a friendly and very social guy and enjoyed visiting with people; Jack enjoyed playing the accordion, especially for family gatherings. He could fix anything and loved to tinker with something until he got it fixed. Jack and Florence loved to travel and made frequent trips to Renton and Tacoma, WA. Above all Jack’s faith and family came first in his life; he was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Jack will be deeply missed by his daughters, Rosemary Beer and Susan (Kenneth) Zander, all of Mandan; sons, Ben L., Ron (Vicky), Tom (Carol) and Jack (Maralyn) all from Mandan; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Clara Schmidt, Tacoma, WA; sister-in-law, Clara Markel and brothers-in-law, Con (Liz) Markel and Steve (Kay) Markel all from Mandan.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Rosemary; wife, Florence, who died on June 8, 2014; sisters, Maggie (Leo) Schaff and Julia (Steve) Schaff; brothers, Phil, Christ (Clem) and an infant brother, Ralph along with numerous brothers and sisters-in-law.
