Eugene Vogel

Eugene Wilfred Vogel, 88, Mandan, died January 30, 2017 at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 02, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. at St. Joseph's church in Mandan. A prayer vigil will begin at 6:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 03, 2017 at St. Joseph's at 10:30 a.m. followed by a burial service at the ND Veterans Cemetery at noon. A luncheon will be held at 12:45 pm at the Moose.

Eugene was born in rural Mandan, ND June 3, 1928 to Philip and Magdalena (Heck) Vogel. He met his future wife, Edna, in Mandan in 1948. Eugene and Edna were married March 5, 1951 in Deadwood, SD. In 1951 they moved to McKenzie, ND where they worked on a ranch. In 1952 they moved to Harmon, ND and worked on a ranch. They moved to Mandan in 1955, and around 1967 they built their home north of Mandan. Eugene was a veteran of the US Army. He worked for the carpenters and millwrights local, eventually becoming a business agent for the union. In addition to working for the union, he started a bee keeping business, E&M Honey Company that he ran with his son. Gene took great pleasure in working with his bees.

Eugene is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Marvin and Noreen Vogel, Mandan, ND; his daughter, Diane Strom, Bismarck, ND; six grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Leonard (Karen) Fleck, Mandan, ND one brother, Philip Vogel Jr, Meza, AZ and brother-in-law, Willis Keith, Anoka, MN.

Eugene was preceded in death by his wife, Edna; his parents; daughter, Magdalena Fleck; two grandchildren, Christine Fleck and Jessie Vogel; brothers, Joe Vogel, Doug Vogel, and Bill Heck; sisters, Loretta Vogel, Viola Vogel, and Rita Vogel.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials be directed to the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
