Benjamin was born on September 3, 1997, to Thomas and Cindy (Gaasland) Leingang in Bismarck. He was a graduate of Mandan High School. While in high school, Ben had the opportunity to take welding classes that he enjoyed very much. It was then that he discovered that welding was his passion. He was very proud to have been given a job opportunity as a welder at Morrell Welding in Mandan and later with Bobcat in Bismarck. He took great pride in his work.

Some people may not have known that Ben struggled with addiction for many years. As this issue emerged, it became obvious to the family that immediate help and treatment were not easily accessible to someone of his age. Treatment sought by private referral verses a court-ordered referral is difficult to obtain and many of the facilities were too full to accept him. He would also spend many hours with his grandparents for help and support. He was a "peaceful warrior" in his fight against the disease.

Ben was also a kind and generous person with a huge heart and would often help people in need. He loved animals, especially his dog Oreo. He also found joy in music and at age 16 he began taking piano lessons from Jolene Rummel.

Benjamin will be deeply missed by his parents, Tom and Cindy Leingang; sister, Samantha Leingang; intended fiancé Sydney Martin, all of Mandan; grandparents, Georgian Leingang, Mandan, and Gary and Dorene Gaasland, Bismarck; aunts, Toni Leingang (Todd Ustrud) and Kim (Tom) Baillie; uncles, Jason Gaasland and Tim Leingang, and extended family of numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins and very good friends.

Benjamin was preceded in death by his grandfather Arnold Leingang.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations that will be consolidated and distributed to charities that fight drug addiction and work with troubled youth. This will be done in Ben's memory.
