Terry Steckler

Terry L. Steckler, 77, Mandan, died March 20, 2015 at his home in Mandan.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Msgr. Chad Gion as celebrant. Burial will be at 12:00 pm at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery Mandan with Full Military Honors provided by Mandan VFW #707 and American Legion #40.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 24, 2015 from 3:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Parish Vigil at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Terry was born on July 7, 1937 to Lucas and Elizabeth (Braun) Steckler in Mandan, ND. He was raised and educated in Mandan. He attended St. Joseph’s Grade School and Mandan High School. After High School he proceeded to further his education at St. Thomas College (St. Paul, Minnesota) and Bismarck Junior College.

Terry served in the United States Army in 1961-1963, during the Berlin and Cuban
Crisis. He completed his military obligation in the US Army Reserve, with the 311th General Hospital Unit in Bismarck ND from 1964-1966, was honorably discharged in 1967. He married Helen Doyle of Velva, ND on February 8, 1964 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Mandan, ND.

Terry loved to sell quality mens clothing for Greengards Mens Store and Steckler’s For Men. He worked for the Morton County ASC office, and Thomas TV, Appliance and RV Center, Berger Insurance, Steckler Insurance and MidDakota Insurance. He spent the rest of his working years selling cars and trucks for Bill Barth Ford of Mandan. He retired in March of 2012.

Terry was very proud to have accomplished sobriety for 39 years. As many knew Terry was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, a member of the Mandan and Bismarck Elks, Chamber of Commerce and past member of the Knight of Columbus. Terry lived a full life and left these memories that will be cherished.

Terry will be deeply missed by his wife Helen of 51 years, daughter Kelly, Mandan; two sons, Scott (Kathy) Mandan, Todd (Mayra) McAllen, TX: two grandchildren, Angela and Jacob Steckler; sister, Del Steckler Edina, MN.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, infant son and infant brother Vernon.
