Eva Wingenbach

Eva Wingenbach, 96, of Mandan, died April 17 at Sanford Health in Bismarck. She was born November 22, 1919, the daughter of Adam and Anna (Krantz) Zins near Red Lake Falls, MN. She grew up in the Timmer, ND area and attended a country school completing the eighth grade at the age of 12.
Eva married Joe Wingenbach on June 14, 1949 at St. Gertrude’s Catholic Church, Raleigh, ND. Together they started farming south of Carson, near the Cannonball River. They also started a dairy operation which eventually was known as the Cannonball Dairy.
Eva’s love for life was evident in multiple ways; raising her children, gardening, caring for pets and livestock. Her favorite time of year was spring with the anticipation of planting her garden and welcoming the new crop of livestock.
Eva’s talents included music. She taught herself to play the organ/piano and loved to sing, especially the hymns at Mass. Her baking expertise was well known and appreciated, especially her blue ribbon yeast buns and sweet dill pickles. Her hobbies included crocheting and embroidery.
Eva is preceded in death by her husband Joseph Wingenbach, her infant son Adam and daughter Elizabeth (Bette); four brothers, Valentine (Wally), Gerhard, Leander, Eugene and two sisters; Lenora and Margaret.
She is survived by eight children; daughters Janice (Stephen) Wood from Billings, MT, Marilyn (Mark) Stumpf, Gloria (Tim) Wanner, JoAnn (Travis) Coyle all from Mandan; sons Jim (Bonnie) from West Fargo, Dave (Beth) from Minatare, NB, Ken (Carol), and Ron (Mary) both from Bismarck, 31 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
Public visitation begins at 4:00 pm Wednesday, April 20 with a Funeral Vigil at 7:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, April 21 at 10:30 am at Christ the King Church in Mandan. In lieu of flowers, send memorials to Christ the King Church in Mandan or St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Carson, ND.
