Elizabeth was born on October 25, 1925 to Sarah Ellen McWirr and John Lawrence Marlowe in Liverpool, England. She was raised and educated in Liverpool and attended school there and also in Wales where she and her younger brother and sister were evacuated to avoid the bombing of Liverpool in 1939 at the start of World War II. After a year and half they returned home where Elizabeth graduated from an all-girls school where she was active in Girl Scouts (guides) and Girls Training Corp. During the war all young people were required to register for service and Elizabeth chose to become a member of the Women’s Land Army and one of Winston’s Little Angels, (WLA). Under the auspices of the Women’s Land Army where she was a member for 3 years, Elizabeth had the privilege of attending lectures at Oxford.

It was while stationed at Mentmore Towers, Bedfordshire, the home and estate of Lord Rosebury that she met her beloved future husband, Greg, who was stationed at Cheddington Air Field serving as a Staff Sergeant in the Army Air Corp. After they became engaged, Greg was sent to Germany returning to marry Elizabeth in January 1946. Greg returned to the United States in March and Elizabeth followed in May.

They purchased land along the Heart River in Grant County, ND where they built their home, raised and educated three sons. Because of a teacher shortage in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s she taught all eight grades in a one room school in Harper School District #3 in Grant County. Betty always thought of others first and everyone who ever knew her loved her. She loved to sing little songs to her great-grandchildren and always had treats for them. She was well known for the best caramel apples for Halloween. Betty referred to everyone as "love."

Elizabeth will be deeply missed by her sons, Wayne, Bloomington, MN, Jeff (Audrey), Almont, ND and Chris (Bernie), Mandan, ND; 6 grandchildren, Heather Dahners Gebhardt, Carey (Ryan) Rivinius, Ashley (Jeremy) Doepke, Jorey (Amanda) Dahners and Rowan and Ian Dahners; 14 great-grandchildren, Ben, Christian, Johnathon, Jayden, Halle, Bree, Shayli, Jace, McKenzee, Connor, Alyvia, Addison, Ellie and Fallyn along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Greg who died in 2003; brothers, John, Lawrence and Christopher and sisters, Margaret, Ellen, Patricia and Caroline.
