Dennis Blum

March 11, 1959 — May 8, 2015

Dennis C. (Butch) Blum, 56, Mandan, passed peacefully with his wife and family by his side on May 8, 2015 at Sanford Health in Bismarck after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at Weigel Funeral, Mandan, ND with Rev. Ernie Hockett officiating. Inurnment will take place at Mandan Union Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to service on Tuesday at Weigel Funeral Home.

Dennis was born on March 11, 1959 to Carl and Dorothy (Thorson) Blum in Milbank, SD. He was raised and educated in Milbank and Big Stone City, SD. He attended school to learned how to set up mobile homes, which he did for several years. On July 31, 1982 he married Lora Blank in Mandan. Dennis was a master of his trade as a welder and currently was owner/operator of Twins City Welding in Mandan. Proud of his career he was a great mentor to young people to start a career as a welder.

Socially Dennis was very outgoing and often said, “I have never met a stranger”. He loved his grandchildren and wanted to put out a garden for his grandson, Rory as children carried a special place in his heart.

In his spare time he had many hobbies like, restoring and repairing old cars. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years and appreciated the outdoors in general. He was a family man in many ways, a high light were trips to visit family in SD and CO.

Dennis will be deeply missed by his wife, Lora; daughter, Sadie (special friend, Mike Howes) Washburn, ND; sons, Mike, (special friend, Julie Ritz), Mandan, ND and Sean (Danielle) Mandan, ND; grandchildren, Rory Ritz and Ella Blum; sisters, Elaine (Elmer) Bohn and Vivian Frederick both of Mandan, ND; brothers, Kenneth (Ella Mae) Blum, Evans, CO and David, (special friend, Gale) Gilcrest, CO. and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John and two great nephews, Aspen and Adrian.

In Lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.
