Wilfred Rebenitsch

Wilfred J. Rebenitsch, 85, formerly of Fort Rice, ND, passed away November 28, 2016 at Strasburg Care Center in Strasburg.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, ND with Deacon Gary Mizuer officiating. Burial will be at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Mandan VFW Post #707 and American Legion Post #40.

Visitation will be held Monday, December 5, 2016 from 5:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Wilfred was born on April 18, 1931 to John and Theresa (Koppy) Rebenitsch, Jr. in Fort
Rice, ND. He was raised and educated in the Mandan area, graduating from Mandan High School in 1948. Wilfred proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955 during the Korean Conflict. After his return to North Dakota he married Margaret "Patsie" Helfrich on September 25, 1956 in St. Anthony, ND. Wilfred and Margaret ranched southwest of Fort Rice for many years retiring in 1977.

Wilfred was an active member of the St. Martin's Parish in Huff, ND. He was an avid baseball fan and played softball on the Fort Rice Softball Team until he was age 80. Watching baseball was his favorite pastime, but he also enjoyed putting jigsaw puzzles together. He and Margaret also enjoyed wintering in Arizona and met many new friends on their travels.

Wilfred will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 60 years, Margaret, who is presently living at the Strasburg Care Center; his sister Marlene Schultz, Glendive, MT; sister-in-law, Shirley Rebenitsch, along with several nieces and nephews and many good friends.

Wilfred was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ralph and brother-in-law, Harold Schultz.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial to North Dakota Veterans Cemetery or Mandan Softball Association.
