Luella Kary, 92, Minot, passed away October 26, 2016, at her home surrounded by family after a short illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016, at 9:30 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Shane Campbell as celebrant. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Friday, October 28, 2016, from 3:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Luella was born on January 19, 1924, in Huff, ND. She was the 11th of 12 children born to George and Theresa (Brigl) Smith. Luella was raised and educated in the Huff area. She married Jack Kary on April 9, 1945, in Huff, ND. In 1956 they moved to Minot, ND, where they made their home and raised their family.
Luella was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed being with her family, dancing, decorating cakes, sewing, and gardening, especially flowers. She was a wonderful cook and an immaculate housekeeper. Above all Luella's family and her faith were central in her life. She was a Prayer Warrior and loved her church, St. John the Apostle in Minot.
Luella will be deeply missed by her 5 children: Vernon (Dona) Kary, Grand Forks, ND; Georgene Kary, Minot, ND; Jackie (Dennis) Walls, Riverdale, ND; Nadine (Scott) Solemsaas, Bismarck, ND; Janel (Scott) Fuchs, Minot, ND; and daughter-in-law, Susan Kary, St.Ignatius, MT; 11 grandchildren: Diane (Brad) Ruesing; Wade and Chad Walls; David Kary; Trenton and Travis Kary; Erin, Brian, and Brandon Solemsaas; Carson and Quinn Fuchs; 2 great-grandchildren: Abigail (Aaron) Kruezer and Alyssa Ruesing; 1 sister, Lillian Bethke; 4 sisters-in-law, Verna Kary, Francis (Kary) Geiger, Francis Kary, and Lillian Kary; and special friends, Sara Graves and Jeanette Klier, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Luella was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack; son, Rodney; infant daughter, Mary; granddaughter, Deborah Weisert; brothers, Henry and Albert Smith; sisters, Theresa Schwartzbauer, Alice Helbling, Minnie Ellison, Frona Schmidt, Helen Betterley, Leone Devine, Florence Graner, and Beatrice Berger.
