Henry Stegmiller

Henry M. Stegmiller, 85, Mandan, died peacefully at his home with his family by his side on November 28, 2016.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, December 2, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Shane Campbell as celebrant. Burial will be at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Flasher American Legion Post #69.

Visitation will be held Thursday, December 1, 2016 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 pm followed by a Parish Vigil. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Henry was born on September 14, 1931 to Joseph and Edith (Friesz) Stegmiller. He was raised on a farm near Flasher. He was the youngest of 8 children. Henry served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After returning home he married his sweetheart, Leona Doll on May 24, 1955. They had a Grade A dairy farm for 40 years eventually retiring in Mandan.

Henry had a natural talent for music; he played the accordion and piano. He was a kind and gentle man and will always be remembered for his honesty and patience. He had a great sense of humor and the best smile.

Henry will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 61 years, Leona; children, Lila Braun, Beulah, ND, Yvonne (Brian) Day, Bismarck, ND, Mark (Jodi), Flasher, ND and Carrolee (Paul) Nowacki, St. Paul, MN; 11 grandchildren, Jerry, Natalie, Daniel, Michelle, Christopher, David, Jessy, Jacque, Jacob, Audrey and Joe; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Leo (Rufina), New Hradec, ND; sisters-in-law, Frances Stegmiller, Mandan ND and Margie Stegmiller, Bismarck, ND along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Edith; daughter, Jacqueline; son, Marvin; grandsons, Chad Braun and Brian Kahl; son-in-law, Arno Braun; brothers, Joe, Manuel and Gene (Emma) Stegmiller; sisters, Francis (Jake) Hatzenbuhler and Pauline (George) Bohl.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery or CHI St. Alexius Hospice.
