Eugene (Gene) B. Thomas, 65, Mandan, passed away September 22, 2016 at Sanford Health Care Center Off Sunset in Mandan.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Msgr. Chad Gion as celebrant. Burial will be at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with full military honors provided by Mandan American Legion Post #40 and North Dakota National Guard.

Visitation will be held Monday, September 26, 2016 from 3:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Eugene was born on October 23, 1950 to Joseph and Rose (Schmidt) Thomas in Mandan. He married the love of his life Gladys J. Kary on July 26, 1971 in Mandan. His family was the highlight of his life. Eugene was proud to serve his country in the National Guard. He worked for Speedy's Tire for many years.

Eugene had a good sense of humor and quick wit. He enjoyed woodworking, refinishing furniture, and old wagons which became his signature item. Eugene loved to hunt and fish especially on the Missouri at Eckroth Bottoms. He also enjoyed working in his garden of vegetables which he generously shared, and his pride and joy was his yard and flowers.

Eugene will be deeply missed by his wife of 45 years Gladys, Mandan ND; sons, Travis (Lisa), Bismarck ND, Kyle (Lashelle), Fargo ND, and Weston, Washington DC; 4 grandchildren, Brennan, Ella, Lily, and Savanna; and one brother Bob (Jennette), Mandan, ND.

Eugene was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Rose; sisters, Irene (Ben) Hoffman, Delores (Dave) Smith; brothers, Darryl, and an infant John; and parents-in-law, John and Appolonia Kary.

Memorials are preferred and maybe sent to the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
